STRATEGIES FOR REDUCING CYBERCRIME ACTIVITIES AMONG YOUNG ADOLESCENTS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN RIVERS STATE

Abstract

The focus of this paper is on the strategies for reducing cybercrime activities among young adolescents in secondary schools in Rivers State. Cybercrimes are the criminal activities which are being committed using computers and or other digital devices. Crime which is as old as man with its concepts of cybercrime and the ranges were discussed as well as the causes of cybercrime in Rivers state secondary schools amongst the adolescents. The methods of the tricks used to operate cybercrime were also highlighted. The strategies that will be taken to curtail these activities among the adolescents were also discussed. The paper thus strongly recommends that the religious bodies should preach against the evil of cybercrime that is destabilizing the youth and societal growth and development. Again, it recommends that the government should provide employment opportunities for the youths thereby giving them the space for personal growth and to contribute to the development of the society at large.
