MANAGEMENT OF COLLABORATIVE LEARNING AS AN INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY FOR ATTAINING IMPROVED LEARNING OUTCOME IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN RIVERS STATE

Abstract

Collaborative learning is a type of learning where students work in groups in schools. It is also a strategy that determines the active participation of students in a classroom as their direct encounter with one another equips them with skills and competencies. This study was conducted to see collaborative learning as an instructional strategy for attaining improved learning outcome in public schools in Rivers State. The learning outcome of students in a classroom is very important. Collaborative learning strategies have the potency to generate knowledge and learning outcome which is required for continuing development of students. In addition, collaborative learning is important not just because it is a better way to learn by doing a project in a group but because it penetrates every stage of students’ lives within and outside the four walls of classroom. Thus, learning to collaborate is part of equipping students for effectiveness, problem solving, innovation and life-long learning in the global economy.
