THE STATE OF IGBO LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT PAST TO PRESENT: IS IT FIT FOR GLOBALIZATION?
Abstract
Despite the much gap Igbo language have covered from past to present, the availability of massive information of various field of human endeavour, some indigenous in Nigeria, in particular Igbo still do not have access of information on new trends that ensure sustainable development as a result of language barrier. In Nigeria; for example, where the majority of the people still speak and practice the numerous diverse linguistic communities, noting could be more beneficial if the various initiative for development in areas such economy, technology, health, environment, empowerment etc. are made available to the indigene in their native languages. Communication with these languages, will enhance the lives of the people, it will also create the activity in those languages, thus ensuring their viability and eventual preservation. This paper examines the possible ways in which in indigenous languages could play a positive role in ensuring sustainable development on nation economy in global market.References
